- Important decisions were made at the NATO summit in The Hague. In particular, European countries will increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. They must do this by 2035.
- Historian, politician, diplomat Roman Bessmertny commented on the results of the NATO summit.

The NATO summit in The Hague was a powerful signal to Russia. The Kremlin expected that Europe would continue to be passive.
Historian, politician, and diplomat Roman Bessmertny told Channel 24 about this. According to him, the Kremlin did not expect Europe to consolidate so much and start investing more in the military-industrial complex. The United States liked this decision.
Europe has made strong decisions
As Bessmertny noted, US President Donald Trump was pleased with the result. Europe is ready to strengthen its own defense.
Pay attention to Trump's words. He said that he was preparing for one thing, but got a different result. And that's what happened. He considered all 32 countries to be violators. And only Spain was against increasing defense spending. Other countries are disciplined, Bessmertny noted.
With its decisions, Europe demonstrates that it is ready to invest in its own defense-industrial complex. They will also continue to support Ukraine.
It is obvious that Europe's decision will dampen Moscow's “ardor” a little. They are a good response to the plans that Putin has described and wants to implement in an encouraging manner. Europe and NATO are showing that they are ready to respond harshly to Putin if necessary, Bessmertny noted.
Let us add that all NATO countries agreed to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. This must be done by 2035. At first, Spain was against it, but then agreed.
