The Kremlin commented on the US decision on a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Games in Beijing. RIA Novosti reports.
“The main thing is that the athletes do not have anything to do with, and politics does not affect the ideas of Olympism,” said the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, he stressed that the decision of American athletes to participate in the competition will not in any way affect the conduct of the Olympics.
Earlier, the decision of the United States to declare a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Games was commented on by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The organization stressed that the presence of officials and diplomats is a purely political decision of each government, and the IOC recognizes this right. The committee approved that the participation of American athletes in the Olympics remains outside of politics.
The refusal of the United States to send officials to the Games became known on December 6. The Beijing Olympics will be held from 4 to 20 February next year.
