The state of health of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is normal on the sixth day of the hunger strike in Rustavi prison, Nika Gvaramia, director general of the opposition Mtavari Archi TV channel, told reporters on Wednesday.
“Frankly, I have not seen such an active Saakashvili for a long time. I was a member of his government and saw his activity at the peak of his reform activities. I saw him just as vigorous and active today in a prison cell,” Gvaramia said after visiting the politician in prison.
“The hunger strike is not yet reflected on it, and the state of health is normal, but it is natural that it will begin to deteriorate in the coming days,” he added.
Gvaramia said that Saakashvili does not intend to end the hunger strike.
The ex-president of Georgia, now a citizen of Ukraine, Mikhail Saakashvili, secretly arrived from Ukraine in Georgia on September 29. On October 1, he was detained in Tbilisi, now he is in prison in the city of Rustavi and went on a hunger strike there.
In Georgia, Saakashvili is involved in several criminal cases. Representatives of the Georgian authorities have repeatedly stated that they will detain him as soon as he crosses the border. Saakashvili considers his detention illegal, and the accusations against him – falsified.
