Philip Newald is retiring from the Rapid Presidium after he has been promoted to solo managing director of sponsor tipp3.
Rapid has to cope with a loss in the current presidium: Philip Newald is withdrawing from the Hütteldorfer's voluntary management committee.
The Viennese, who once worked as marketing director for Rapid, recently rose to become the sole managing director of tipp3. In addition to the time-intensive management position as the main reason, there is a second impetus to resign from the mandate.
The Austrian betting provider is a sponsor of Rapid. In order to counteract theoretically possible violations of compliance rules, Newald – who in future will no longer have a second tipp3 managing director responsible for financial matters – will only be available to the Rapidlers in an advisory capacity in the future.
Active as “bridge builder”
Newald had been won over by President Martin Bruckner in 2019 and, after previous disputes, mainly acted as a “bridge builder” in contact with other clubs, sponsor representatives and the major football organizations.
During the first months of the Corona crisis, it was often heard in Hütteldorf that Newald had helped with his experience and contacts to minimize the damage to the Viennese.
Bruckner also emphasizes this in the official broadcast: “Philips work and expertise has been extremely valuable in the last few months – especially during the Corona crisis – and I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for this on behalf of SK Rapid Take over Stefan Singer from our presidium team. “
As he said goodbye to Newald, Bruckner said: “I very much regret Philip's departure from our committee and thank you for his work so far. It speaks volumes for him that he will continue to support us with action and advice. Philip is always very ambitious and conscientious and since he thinks that he could not meet his own claims to exercise the honorary office in our presidium due to the increased time expenditure for his job, his withdrawal from our presidium can only be taken consistently and with regret . “
Newald's place in the Presidium, which can face re-election in autumn 2022, will not be filled for the time being.
