After many decades of lull, space has again become the subject of interest for many countries. And while the United States, together with SpaceX, is looking for ways to conquer distant planets, the same Japan is busy with more pressing problems.
Thus, the Japanese company Astroscale announced the successful capture of a satellite in low-earth orbit, SpaceNews reports. This was done as part of testing the latest technology for collecting space debris.
The device, created specifically for these purposes, separated from itself a dummy of space debris. He then approached him and captured him with a magnetic manipulator. At the same time, the company representatives noted that at the moment we are talking about the separation of garbage at a small distance.
As part of testing, the engineers were able to test recording and indicating devices, as well as software and, most importantly, the magnetic mechanisms of manipulators.
