The Japanese opposed the holding of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The fact that there are fewer supporters of this idea in the country than opponents is evidenced by data from a telephone social survey, NHK reports.
27 percent of the Japanese are in favor of the Games, almost a third are against: 32 percent; 31 percent of respondents believe that the Games should be rescheduled.
It is noted that in the same poll, conducted in December, the Japanese were in favor of holding the Olympics – 40 percent of respondents inclined to support such a decision.
The channel conducted the current poll from December 11 to 13 among 2.1 thousand people over 18 years old. It is reported that the country is experiencing record rates of the spread of a new type of coronavirus: on Monday, December 14, more than 1.6 thousand new cases were detected, in total there are more than 183 thousand, deaths – more than 2.6 thousand.
The fact that the 2020 Summer Olympics has been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic became known on March 24. The director of the organizing committee of the Games, Haruyuki Takahashi, admitted the possibility of re-postponing the Olympic Games. At the same time, he stressed that it is impossible to completely cancel the Games, as this will deal a huge blow to the economy of Japan and the world.
