The Japanese have proposed killing insects with artificially intelligent laser weapons, Nikkel Asia reported.
According to the Japanese authorities, up to 16 percent of raw materials for food are lost due to insect pests, and global warming will create more favorable conditions for their reproduction, so they need to be dealt with.
Developers from the research association NARO plan to conduct field tests with a laser installation in 2022: a stereoscopic camera will notice them, and artificial intelligence will predict the flight path and shoot them down with a laser pulse. In the future, the installations are going to be placed on unmanned drones and sent to the fields.
They are collected for training on adults of the Asian cotton bollworm or cornflyworm, they cause significant damage to the harvest in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and India. One laser installation will kill up to 300 insects per minute. This will eliminate the use of harmful chemicals that are ineffective and harmful to the environment.
Earlier, a member of the Russian Bar Association Margarita Kurashina warned Russians about the risk of going to prison for fighting cockroaches. According to her, criminal liability arises if people are injured when using strong chemicals against insects.
