Unsuccessful assaults of the Russians on July 12/General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
< strong _ngcontent-sc88="">Russian invaders do not give up hope to move forward on the territory of Ukraine. But their offensives fail.
After exhausting battles in the Lugansk region, the Russian leadership decided to “take an operational pause” in the war against Ukraine. One does not mean that the fighting has stopped. Analysts note that Russian troops continue to regroup, rest, re-equip and rebuild, but continue to engage in shelling and offensive operations. The current Russian offensives are likely to prepare for upcoming offensives, the timing of which remains unclear.
Experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Russian forces have launched limited and unsuccessful ground offensives north of Slovyansk and east of Seversk. And also north of Kharkov.
Unsuccessful attack on Slavyansk
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops repelled Russian ground assaults in the direction of Dovgenkiy, Mazanovka, Krasnopolye and Dolina west of the E40 highway and Mayakov and Ivanovka east of the E40 highway. ISW has found no evidence of Russian troops crossing the Seversky Donets River near Mayakov and Sidorov, but Russian troops may attempt to do so in order to move south to the E40 highway. Such an impetus could be an attempt to cordon off the Ukrainian uprising between the Valley, Bogorodichny, Prishib and Mayaki, given that the Russian front-line attacks on the Valley and Bogorodichnoye were unsuccessful. However, many water bodies in the area make this maneuver difficult.
Russian troops continued shelling areas to the west, northwest and northeast of Slavyansk, including Mazanovka, Dibrovno, Barvenkovo, Bolshaya Kamyshevukha and Chepil. Russian troops are likely to continue their attacks on the areas around Slovyansk in order to create conditions for a renewed offensive on Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
Failed assault east of Seversk
On July 12, Russian forces attempted a limited ground assault east of Seversk near the border with Luhansk Oblast. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that during the unsuccessful attack on Spirno and Ivano-Daryevka, Russian troops suffered serious losses.
Russian troops continued shelling areas along the collision line, including Krivaya Luka, Verkhnekamennoye, Disputed and Serebryanka, probably continuing create conditions for a possible attack on Seversk.
On July 12, Russian troops launched air and artillery strikes to the northeast, east and south of Bakhmut. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Russian troops in the Bakhmut and Novopavlovsk directions are trying to improve their tactical positions and strike along the line of contact to contain Ukrainian forces.
Attack on Kharkiv from the north
Russian troops conducted several unsuccessful ground assaults north of Kharkov. There, their goal is to prevent Ukrainian forces from reaching the Russian border. And also to protect the logistics routes to Izyum.
