Ukrainian skeletonist Vladislav Geraskevich publicly spoke out against the war in Ukraine at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. He showed a poster with the inscription No war in Ukraine (from English means: no war in Ukraine).
The International Olympic Committee reacted to the clear position of the Ukrainian athlete. The IOC noted that Geraskevich's poster is a universal call for peace .
– We talked with the athlete. It was a universal call for peace. For the IOC, this issue is closed, the Olympic Committee said in a statement.
The skeletonist commented on his act in comments to the Ukrainian media. He explained that he was not afraid of disqualification, because he was striving for peace in Ukraine.
– This is my position. No normal person wants war. I want peace in my country and over my head. I don’t want people to die as a result of the war,” he said.
