Russia's demands on security guarantees to NATO and the United States will ultimately be accepted, political strategist Marat Bashirov is convinced. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he noted that the States are accustomed to the feeling of complete security, but now, with the advent of hypersonic missiles, this illusion is dispelled.

“Now the point is not even whether NATO will agree with all the proposals. In any case, Russia will not back down from its demands. The main thing is that the negotiations have nevertheless begun, despite the fact that at first they sounded rather harsh statements that could be interpreted as a complete refusal. This means only one thing: US President Joe Biden and his supporters nevertheless began to act and turn the tide, ”Bashirov is sure.

He noted that not everyone in NATO agrees with the rejection of a tough confrontation with Russia. But Biden wants to go down in history as a true peacemaker, which is facilitated by his inner circle.

“He wants to be a real peacemaker. Not like Obama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for some unknown reason. I do not think that NATO head Jens Stoltenberg would have proposed setting a date for negotiations without pressure from Biden's team, which insists on peace, ”the political strategist said.

Where these negotiations will lead, according to him, it is impossible to guess. But if Russia continues to insist on the actual implementation of security requirements, this can lead to the desired result.

“We are not asking to remove the soldiers, remove the tanks. We ask that the missiles be removed from our borders. And I think that ultimately this requirement will be accepted, because it is in the interests of both Russian citizens and EU citizens. And, moreover, it is in the interests of the United States, which, by the way, is very difficult for them to realize, ”Bashirov said.

Americans are accustomed to the idea that they are far away and no one can attack them. But after the advent of hypersonic missiles, this illusion dissipates.

If NATO agrees with Russia's proposals and removes its missiles, Ukraine may regard this as a betrayal. But the political strategist noted that the role of a small state in global politics and security is too small for NATO to reckon with it.

“From the point of view of global security, this is just a small piece of land. Yes, a huge number of people live there. But from the point of view of security, the territory is small, without any military resources of its own. So it is unlikely that someone will think about it when solving this issue, ”the political strategist concluded.

Earlier it became known that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12. On the same day, a meeting of the chiefs of staff of the NATO member states will be held.

Russian diplomats face extremely tense negotiations with the United States on Russian proposals related to security guarantees. This was stated by the official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov.
