Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the creation of a sanitary shield in Russia. The barrier should minimize the risk of dangerous infections entering the country.
Director of the Scientific Information Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections, infectious disease specialist, immunologist and allergist Georgy Vikulov, on the air of Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda (radiokp.ru), explained how such a shield would work.
“Since Soviet times, a system of powerful anti-epidemic measures has been created. In fact, this new project, a new strategy developed at the initiative of Rospotrebnadzor, was created to introduce all modern technologies for a quick response to any challenges of the microworld, the emergence of new infections, ”the doctor explained.
The barrier will help to quickly develop vaccines, test systems, and most importantly, it is planned to create more than 50 sequencing centers.
“These are very expensive methods for detecting mutations, shall we say, of dangerous infectious agents. This requires investment. Sequencers are quite expensive equipment, which, of course, if installed in the largest cities, will allow for better and faster monitoring, assessment of mutations and identification of new strains, and quickly find a solution, ”said the immunologist.
