Specialist in especially dangerous infections, immunologist, doctor of medical sciences Vladislav Zhemchugov, in an interview with TASS, named the reason why mortality from coronavirus may increase.
“Lethality can increase if the strain changes. And it changes in the direction of obtaining greater benefits for the virus, that is, those mutations are selected that contribute to the speed of spread, penetration into cells, ”said Zhemchugov.
According to him, the only way to protect against coronavirus is to vaccinate as many people in the world as possible in the shortest possible period of time. So the virus will not have time to adapt to the vaccine.
At the same time, the doctor noted that the ability of the virus to adapt to anticancer drugs is, among other things, a response to the vaccination itself, since only the strongest and most powerful virus survives as a result of “selection”. According to him, new strains will crowd out those against which vaccines have been made, and will evade the action of vaccine immunity, and this, as noted by Zhemchugov, is a normal logical connection.
“The only way out is to quickly get everyone vaccinated on the largest possible scale across territories and countries, until the virus has had time to adapt to the vaccine,” the immunologist said.
On August 13, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the number of Moscow residents who received at least one component of the coronavirus vaccine exceeded 4.5 million. He noted that in the capital, thanks to mass vaccinations and anti-epidemic measures, the pandemic is receding.
