Yeltsin Center has revealed the identity of a suspect in the defacing of a painting by Malevich’s student Anna Leporskaya “Three Figures” in Yekaterinburg. The vandal turned out to be an employee of a private security organization that guarded the center, reports TASS.

“We inform you that during the investigation, the identity of the person who painted the eyes of the figures in the painting of Anna Leporskaya has been established. This is an employee of a private security organization that carries out the security activities of the Yeltsin Center,” the press service reported.

On February 4, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sverdlovsk region, Valery Gorelykh, said that the police had detained a vandal suspected of defacing a painting by Anna Leporskaya. According to him, the detainee has already been interrogated.

On January 13, it became known that an unknown person damaged the canvas of a student of the artist Kazimir Malevich. The vandal drew eyes with a ballpoint pen on the abstract faces of two figures on the canvas. The ink penetrated the paint layer, as the titanium whitewash was not varnished.

After the incident, the Ministry of Culture of Russia demanded to open a criminal case. The Department of Museums and External Relations of the Ministry of Culture sent a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia. On February 4, it was reported that a criminal case had been initiated.
