The head of the Yuri Gagarin CTC told how cosmonauts are being prepared for spacewalks

The head of the Yuri Gagarin CTC, Maxim Kharlamov, told what kind of training cosmonauts undergo before going into outer space.

– The CPC is one of the few institutions in the country where they study human behavior in extreme environments and develop recommendations for preparing them for work in difficult conditions. We have a lot of specialists who, by the nature of our activity, are associated with extreme sports, '' he said in an interview with kp.ru.

For many years, the CPC has been developing a special technique that can maximize the efficiency of cosmonauts during long flights and landings on other planets. What is it? On the third or fourth day after a long flight, the cosmonauts put on a heavy spacesuit for spacewalk and perform work in the simulator. It simulates the surface of Mars or the Moon both in terms of the structure of the soil underfoot and in terms of gravity.

This experiment on training cosmonauts was named “Constellation”. It has been held at the Center for eight years in conjunction with the Institute of Biomedical Problems.

Another stage in preparation is the hydro laboratory. Training there is considered one of the most difficult. The building has a rather large pool: its diameter is 23 meters, and the depth is 12. There the cosmonauts practice operations in open space. The fact is that movements in water are similar to movements in zero gravity. Therefore, all exits planned in space are first performed in the pool.

Earlier we talked about why the actress Julia Peresild was rolled in a centrifuge. Soon she, together with director Klim Shipenko, will go into space to shoot the film.
