US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
With reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the agency reported that the conversation between the Pentagon chief and his Russian counterpart took place at the initiative of the American side.
Earlier, the head of the US Department of Defense stated that against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis, the opportunities for dialogue between the United States and Russia have not yet been exhausted. At the same time, he spoke about the Russian troops that are being drawn to Ukraine. Austin accused the Russian government of continuing this, despite statements about the withdrawal of forces from the Ukrainian borders.
