Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio may visit Moscow and Kiev this week in connection with the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border. This was reported by the Italian newspaper La Stampa, reports RIA Novosti.

The agency also cites information from the Corriere della Sera newspaper, according to which Italy can send up to 2,000 of its soldiers to Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania if NATO decides to expand its presence in these states.

Earlier, Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Manlio Di Stefano announced the need to reduce the country's dependence on Russian gas. The diplomat stressed that Italy, along with other European countries, depends on a narrow circle of sources of resources – in particular, on Russia. He noted that at the beginning of the year, Moscow almost halved gas flows destined for Rome via the Ukrainian route.
