The refusal of Russian officials to participate in the Munich Security Conference poses a threat to the peace process, as the European community is deprived of another opportunity to discuss the crisis over Ukraine. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, quoted by RT.

“I am going to Munich today to discuss how we can respond to the logic of threats of force and military escalation with the logic of dialogue. It is in the current extremely dangerous situation that it would be so important to meet with Russian representatives in Munich,” the minister said.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry also considered Moscow's refusal to participate in the conference a loss.

Earlier, a similar statement was made by the chairman of the Munich Conference, German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger. He recalled that Russian politicians had been representing the country's position in Munich for many years. And at present, the diplomat categorically rejects Moscow's reproaches of “turning the conference into a transatlantic club.”

The conference takes place February 18-20.
