French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called unacceptable the possible recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) by Russia. His words on Tuesday, February 15, are quoted by TASS.
“This would be an unacceptable situation, a form of aggression without weapons and destruction without the use of weapons of the unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This would be an encroachment on the sovereignty of Ukraine,” the French minister said.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron asked Russian President Vladimir Putin not to comply with the request of the State Duma to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR.
On February 15, the State Duma supported a draft resolution on an appeal to the president with a request to recognize the DPR and LPR. The version of the document proposed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation won in the rating voting. It involves the direct submission of an appeal to the head of state without additional consultations with the Russian Foreign Ministry.
