Hamas attacks on Israel could create threats similar to those created by ISIS.
The director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Christopher Wray, said that in the United States of America, due to the war between Hamas and Israel, a terrorist threat similar to that created by ISIS has increased.
He said this in his speech before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, CBS news reported.
“In the past few weeks alone, numerous foreign terrorist organizations have called for attacks on Americans and the West. We are living through a dangerous period. This is not a time to panic, but now we need to be vigilant,” Ray said.
At the same time, the head of the FBI emphasized, there are no signs yet that Hamas is planning or has the ability to carry out attacks in the United States. However, Ray added, “we do not rule out this possibility.”
According to him, this threat has somehow reached “historic levels”, because the Jewish community has become a target for terrorists. The FBI director noted that Jews make up only 2.4% of the US population, but before the conflict in the Middle East, they were the target of 60% of religious hate crimes.
Let us recall that earlier the White House announced an “increased risk” of the conflict spreading in the Middle East due to attacks on American military bases by groups supported by Iran.
