At the G20 summit, Charles Michel, head of the European Council, invited the leaders of the countries to create an international treaty on pandemics at the G20 summit. TASS reports.

According to him, the document can help prevent pandemics in the future, as well as facilitate a faster and more coordinated response. “[The Treaty] needs to be discussed with all nations, with UN agencies, in particular with WHO,” said the head of the Council of Europe.

Michel added that WHO's role should be key in coordinating action in the event of pandemics, and a global compact will complement these efforts.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a speech at the G20 summit, proposed creating a unified international mechanism of “health codes” based on data from coronavirus tests. The Chinese leader explained that the mechanism will be based on the results of nucleic acid tests in the form of internationally mutually recognized QR codes.
