The United States and China are in a space race, countries will most likely fail to forge partnerships in space. This opinion was expressed by the head of NASA Bill Nelson, speaking at the 36th space symposium, writes Space.
“Unfortunately, I believe that we are in a space race with China. If we talk about the United States, I would like China to be a partner, as is the case with Russia, ”Nelson said.
In his opinion, cooperation between the United States and China in space is impossible, because “China is a closed country, and transparency is necessary for cooperation in the space sphere.”
At the same time, Nelson positively assessed the interaction of NASA with Russia, he also expressed hope for the continuation and improvement of work in this direction, despite the political differences between the countries.
Earlier, the head of NASA said that cooperation between the United States and Russia in space should continue. He noted that political relations between Moscow and Washington are “becoming very tense” and space is one of the few areas in which the parties can work together. “This collaboration has continued since 1975, when an American spacecraft docked with a Russian spacecraft at the height of the Cold War and the crews lived together for nine days,” Nelson said.
