The head coach of the Russian youth team Sergey Zubov commented on the defeat to the Canadian national team in the test match before the 2022 World Youth Championship. His words appeared on the official website of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
“We slept through the beginning, and there is nothing to be surprised at. We made mistakes ourselves, and the deletions were completely unnecessary, in harmless situations, ”the mentor said. Zubov said that the first period in which the Canadians scored four goals predetermined the outcome of the meeting. “The Canadian national team usually goes to the games charged, and we could not oppose anything today,” he said.
On December 24, the youth team lost to the Canadian team in the test match in Edmonton with a score of 6: 4 (0: 4, 3: 1, 1: 1). Among the Russians were Nikita Chibrikov (23rd minute), Matvey Michkov (31st, 60th) and Alexander Pashin (38th). As part of the Canadian national team, the goals were scored by Mason McTavish (7th, 37th), Ridley Greig (8th), Kent Johnson (13th), Lucas Cormier (17th) and Connor Bedard (50th).
The Ice Hockey World Youth Championship will be held from December 26 to January 5. The tournament will be hosted by Canadian Edmonton and Red Deer. Russia will play in the group stage with the USA, Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland. Of the five teams, four will advance to the playoffs.
