Responsibility for the attack in Nice was claimed by the previously unknown group Al-Mahdi in the south of Tunisia. This became known to Tunis Afrique Presse.
It is noted that the law enforcement agencies of Tunisia began checking after a post on Facebook, in which a supporter of the said organization spoke about its involvement in the attack in France. The prosecutor's office wants to ascertain whether such a group really exists and to find out about its role in the terrorist attack.
Earlier it was reported that terrorist Ibrahim al-Awisawi, who attacked a church in Nice, sent a photo to his family in front of this cathedral. He told his brother that he was going to spend the night near her. The family's neighbors in the city of Sfax noted that the young man, in their opinion, was not inclined to extremism.
On October 29, an attack in Nice killed three people. The knife attack was carried out by a Tunisian in the church of Notre Dame de Nice. According to updated information, the throats of two victims were cut, but the attacker did not completely decapitate them.
It is alleged that al-Awisawi had previously not come to the attention of the police, but at the same time had connections with an international terrorist organization. It is known that he shouted “Allahu Akbar!” and continued to repeat these words even after his arrest.
The incident took place 13 days after the teacher was beheaded in a suburb of Paris.
