The grandmother of a cocaine addict drug user in Italy contacted the police, and thanks to her information, law enforcement officers were able to uncover a gang of drug traffickers. This is reported by La Repubblica with reference to local authorities.
The testimony of a relative of the drug addict helped law enforcement officers to find members of the Muto crime clan, which is part of the Calabrian mafia group “Ndrangheta”. 33 people were arrested: they are accused of trafficking in cocaine and other illegal substances, illegal possession of weapons and a number of other offenses. It is reported that the dealers of the criminal group were distributing drugs in the shopping areas of the surrounding towns.
The mobsters also reportedly cultivated cannabis themselves, produced hashish, and collected tribute from fishmongers and other local entrepreneurs.
The high-profile arrest took place against the backdrop of the largest trial in three decades against members of the mafia in Italy right now: more than 350 suspects associated with the Ndrangheta group are being investigated in various cases.
