The government of the Russian Federation asked programmers to remake programs to work on the Elbrus and Baikal processors

In an official letter, the government asked the developers of Russian programs to adapt their products to the new domestic processors “Baikal” and “Elbrus”.

As the source emphasizes, while the industry is wary of this request. According to Valentin Makarov, President of the Russoft Association, there are two risks that developers pay attention to first of all. First, all documentation regulating relations in this area can be revised, i.e. whether computers with Russian software will be purchased in the future remains open to question. The second is the coronavirus, which may lead to supply disruptions and the inability to increase the required production capacity. These issues have not yet been resolved.

According to Aleksey Smirnov, general director of Basalt SPO, Russian software developed for Intel will not work with Baikal and Elbrus processors. He stressed that even if Baikal will release 600 thousand processors in 2025, then no more than 10 thousand will work with ERP from 1C. All this so far speaks of the disadvantageousness of the content of technical support for the development and adaptation of existing software for future Russian processors.
