A Reddit user posted a photo of tulips that grew in her closet without water and light. The girl said that she removed the box of bulbs for the winter, and was extremely surprised to find plants in it.
“These tulips grew in my closet without sunlight and water,” signed the author of the post. In the comments to the post, she explained that she kept the bulbs at home and planned to plant them in the ground in the spring. “It seems that tulips could not wait so long,” the girl joked about the result.
In the comments under the post, many users admitted that the photo seemed extremely surprising to them. Some of them, like the author of the picture, wondered how tulips could grow and bloom without access to light and water. User @thinkstopthink explained that in botany, the process of abnormal plant growth in continuous darkness is called etiolation. At the same time, several users drew attention to the fact that the growth could be provoked by the high temperature inside the room.
Users also recalled similar stories of unexpected plant growth. “Once I got a potato as a pet, the same thing happened to her. Rest in peace, Percy. You are gone, but you are not forgotten,” Foootballdave laughed. “When I was little, my vfnm grew roses in a hekfyt under the stairs using a dim light bulb. The roses were black, not red,” added markmaksym.
