In the 1990s, most of the cargo across Europe was transported by German, Italian and French truck drivers, and it was they who made money from it.
In the 2000s, Polish carriers, with their low prices and better quality, ousted the Germans, French and Italians from the road freight transport market. But this did not cause such a shameful reaction – no one blocked the borders of Poland because of this.
Ukrainian businessman and blogger Alexey Davydenko recalled this in his post on Facebook.
According to him, in the 1990s, most of the cargo throughout Europe was transported by German, Italian and French truck drivers, and it was they who made money from it. Polish carriers forced them out because they were willing to work more and earn less.
In response, neither the French nor the Germans laid siege to the Polish borders to block Polish trucks and abuse Polish drivers and consumers.
“What the Poles are doing now with the blockade of Ukraine is not friendship or neighborly relations. Even without war. Even if it was peacetime. And this has nothing to do with the market economy and European values,” he wrote.
Alexey Davydenko emphasized that as a result of the war, seaports and airports were closed in Ukraine, so all logistics are now built through the airports and seaports of Poland – “since they are our good neighbors.”
“We pay them port taxes, we use their licensed and customs warehouses, we often load them on their planes and boost their economy,” the businessman said.
According to his information, two months ago it cost 1,500 € to bring a container from Gdansk to Kyiv, but now it costs 6,000 €, that is, the cost of transportation has increased 4 times – because everything costs.
“Ukrainians are not parasites”
“The Poles have blocked everything and are actually besieging us. But in fact, our drivers and our carriers are Poles of the late 90s. Ours are hungry for work. Ours are ready to deliver faster. Ours are ready to work cheaper. This is the market. And the market today chooses Ukrainians,” insists Alexey Davydenko.
He also recalled that Ukrainians are not only refugees and not only entrepreneurs.
“There in Poland, tens of thousands of ordinary Ukrainians work and pay taxes. Our citizens leave money there at gas stations, stay in their hotels, shop in their stores, eat in their restaurants, buy tickets for their trains, buses and planes. Stop hiding your eyes and be afraid to tell the truth. Our people are not parasites, not lepers. In fact, our citizens are boosting the Polish economy with their labor and their expenses there,” the businessman emphasized.
Let us remind you that the leader of the protest of Polish carriers, Rafal Meckler from the far-right National Movement, announced the expansion of the blockade to the fourth checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. From Thursday, November 23, carriers will block the Medika-Shegini checkpoint together with Polish farmers.
