However, the corona pandemic has a negative impact on stationary toy retailers.
The German toy industry, so far unscathed by the corona pandemic like few other industries, expects sales to increase by nine percent for 2021.
The headache was mainly caused by the economic effects of the corona pandemic on stationary toy retailers, which could find themselves in existential difficulties with the second wave of infections and the renewed lockdown, said the German Association of the Toy Industry.
The association recently carried out a survey among members. Another challenge remained intact, functioning supply chains, it said. Individual manufacturers recently complained about considerable additional costs due to a shortage of container ships in China.
There are also differences in the industry: large manufacturers benefit from the online boom, while smaller producers of wooden toys, for example, are much more dependent on being present in stores.
Industry-internal crisis winners have so far been those areas that offer employment opportunities at home: model making, model railways, puzzles, educational games.
