The German government is still blocking the possibility for Ukraine to buy weapons through the NATO agency.
This was told today at a briefing by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov.
He noted that Kiev asked Berlin to stop blocking the supply of weapons by other countries.
We are talking, for example, about the supply of German-made howitzers by Estonia. The Estonian government has asked Berlin for permission to supply these weapons to Ukraine. However, according to Reznikov, the German government refused to give permission.
In addition, Berlin continues to block the purchase of lethal weapons through a special NATO agency.
– As you know, the German government continues to block our purchase of lethal weapons through the NSPA (NATO Support and Procurement Agency). This is a special agency, like the NATO Amazone, which allows you to transparently and openly buy certain means of protection or defeat,” Reznikov stressed.
The minister also commented on the information that Germany will give Ukraine five thousand military helmets. According to Reznikov, Kiev asked not only for helmets.
– We have officially appealed to all governments of countries, including NATO and the EU, with a request to provide us with weapons, a protection system. Including helmets and body armor. And as for the German government, we did not ask for helmets only. Although our military attache, of course, addressed the German government in writing about this,” the head of the Defense Ministry said.
Reznikov clarified that, despite the statement by German Defense Minister Kristine Lambrecht about providing Ukraine with five thousand helmets, Kiev has not yet received an official letter on this matter.
At the same time, the German Embassy in Ukraine assured that such a document is being prepared and should be sent.
