Belarusians were deprived of the opportunity to elect a new president.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock commented on the so-called “elections” in Belarus, in which the incumbent is expected to be declared the winner self-proclaimed head of state Alexander Lukashenko.
She expressed her opinion on her page on the network X.
She noted that Belarusians were deprived of the opportunity to elect a new president.
“The people of Belarus had no choice. This is a bitter day for all who thirst for freedom and democracy. Instead of free and fair elections and a life without fear and arbitrariness, they face oppression, repression and human rights violations every day,” she wrote.
In addition, she recalled that the Lukashenko regime continues to keep more than 1,200 people in prison only because They dared to express their opinion.
“We will not forget them. All political prisoners must be released and the brutal repression must stop. We deeply respect Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the courageous Belarusians. They show us how important the fight for our democracy in Europe is,” the publication says.
Baerbock added that the European family keeps its doors open for a democratic and free Belarus.
Recall that it was previously reported that Tikhanovskaya said under what conditions the authorities in Belarus would change.
In addition, we previously reported that Lukashenko rudely explained his “legitimacy” to a foreign journalist.
