Future Apple smartphones may have a fingerprint sensor for fingerprint unlocking. Reported by the edition 9to5mac.
Possible innovations in the iPhone series are described by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter. The experts said that recently Apple has repeatedly tested the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which was previously found in its smartphones, and was thinking about bringing it back. However, at the moment, the appearance of Touch ID in new smartphones is impractical.
Nevertheless, the journalist is confident that this element may reappear on the iPhone, since the need for users for a fingerprint sensor exists. The foodie believes Apple can take one of two paths. According to the first, expensive iPhones will have an on-screen Face ID sensor, more affordable ones – a fingerprint Touch ID, but built into the display.
According to the second option, the company buries Touch ID and focuses on the development of Face ID – in particular, it is implementing it under the front panel of the device. In this case, top models will have a biometric sensor built into the screen, while cheap Face ID will be located in a cutout on the front panel, like in current devices.
Touch ID is a fingerprint sensor that appeared in Apple smartphones in 2013, with the announcement of the iPhone 5s. In 2017, the corporation introduced the iPhone X, the brand's first phone with a face unlock function.
Earlier, Mark Gurman said that at the autumn event, in addition to the iPhone, Apple will present the Apple Watch 7 and the iPad mini 6 and iPad 9. There is also a possibility of the release of new AirPods headphones.
