In Russia, the FSB is checking Rosguard officials for involvement in the rebellion of the leader of the private military company “Wagner” Evgeniy Prigozhin.

This is reported Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The reason for the inspections was that the Russian Guard allegedly allowed Wagner to hide shells and equipment in its warehouses immediately after the suppression of the rebellion.

“An unidentified general named Roman controlled the storage of up to four large containers of Wagner military equipment near the Russian Guard training ground in the Cossack estate area,” the report says.

In particular, the Kremlin wants to consolidate Russia’s internal security apparatus around Russian Guard after the Wagner mutiny.

“The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on June 27 preparations for the transfer of heavy Wagner military equipment to unspecified units of Russian troops on the same day that the head of the Russian Guard, Viktor Zolotov, announced that the Russian Guard would receive heavy weapons and tanks,” analysts say.

A little later in July, the Russian government also officially transferred the special unit “Grom” of the Federal Service for Drug Control (Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia) under the control of the Russian Guard.

They refuse to hire mercenaries of the Wagner PMC upon returning from the war in Ukraine law enforcement agencies, PMC enterprises and even restaurants. That's why militants get jobs as taxi drivers and construction workers.

What is known about the Russian Guard

The Russian Guard recruits previously imprisoned former fighters from Wagner to conquer the Russians mercenaries and at the same time strengthen Russia's internal security.

The “Rosgvardia”, considered an internal army, was created for protests. It is better armed than the occupiers fighting in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on August 4 allowing the Russian Guard to be equipped with heavy weapons. The dictator's decision may indicate that he views this structure as one of the main pillars of the regime's security.
