German Foreign Ministry: the German government welcomes the statement of the nuclear five on the prevention of war

The FRG government welcomes the statement of the “five” on the prevention of nuclear war, and also points out the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the nuclear powers. This was reported by TASS with reference to a representative of the German Foreign Ministry.
“The German government welcomes yesterday's statements by the US, Russia, China, France and the UK,” the statement reads. “Dialogue and cooperation between these five states is now more important than ever in reducing tensions and reducing the risk of escalation,” the Berlin officials said.
On January 3, the leaders of the nuclear “five” – Russia, China, the United States, Great Britain and France – spoke out against the arms race and called for everything possible to be done to prevent a nuclear war in the future. Their joint statement was published on the Kremlin website. As representatives of the five states noted, nuclear weapons should serve exclusively defensive purposes and be aimed only at curbing the aggression of all players in the international arena.
