This is a bold step for France, since last year it was the leader among European countries in terms of volumes of purchases of Russian LNG.

France intends to include Russian LNG in energy products subject to EU sanctions and completely ban its imports.

About this is stated in the message Bloomberg.

The Senate Committee recommended making an appropriate decision as soon as possible and banning the import of Russian liquefied gas.

The publication writes that this is a bold step for France, since last year it was the leader among European countries in terms of purchases of Russian LNG. France is followed by Spain and Belgium.

The volume of gas entering France this year is almost the same as the total for all of 2023 after a sharp drop in supplies from Qatar.

It is worth noting that the committee will be headed by parties opposition to the current government and they are the ones who demand a ban on the import of Russian gas.

Recall that it was previously reported that Germany is blocking a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to dual-use goods.

In addition, we previously informed that the ultra-right in France are “changing their shoes on the fly,” pro-Russian statements have disappeared from the party’s website.
