Lee Redmond was 82 years old.

American Lee Redmond, who once had the longest nails in the world, died in age 82 years.

She passed away on December 14 in Utah, USA, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Great-grandmother, inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records Hall of Fame, became an icon in the world of record-breakers when she stunned with her extra-long nails in 2003.

She hasn't cut them since 1979, and by 2003 their total length had increased to 7m 51.3cm.

Thanks to careful care and manicure, Lee's nails became even longer, and in 2008 they were measured again on the set of the Italian television show Lo Show dei Record. They then reached a total length of 8.65 m, and also became the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (for women), retaining this title until it was broken by Diana Armstrong (USA) in 2022.

Lee decided to stop filing and trimming her nails, challenging herself to see how long she could grow them before they started to “distort” like so many famously long nails have done. However, her nails took on a completely different look. She took such care of them that they did not curl, but turned into long beautiful arches. Every day, Lee treated her nails with warm olive oil and brushed them with a toothbrush, then applied one and a half bottles of polish to each nail. She then painted them with her signature gold.

Even though many might think that Lee's nails were preventing her from leading a normal life, she was still able to wash dishes, use a mobile phone, cut children's hair and even drive a car.

Lee's nails brought her international fame, but unfortunately she lost them in a car accident in 2009. She once said about this incident: “I heard nails breaking and I don’t remember anything after the feeling of being pulled out of the car.”

The woman suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized after the accident. She made a full recovery, but unfortunately her famous nails were broken. She later said that she felt like she had lost part of her identity, but it was something she had to accept.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, said: “We are all very sad to hear of Lee's death. She was a wonderful person – a kind, generous and compassionate woman who used her international popularity to shine a light on that we should all celebrate our differences: “We are all unique,” she said, “and that’s wonderful.”

Lee is survived by her children Doni, Mindy and Robie, 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters.

Her funeral will be held in Utah on December 21.

Recall that recently the shortest woman on the planet celebrated her anniversary. What is her height and photo of the record holder.
