According to Alexander Zharov, head of the Gazprom-Media holding and former head of Roskomnadzor, a Russian analogue of TikTok will appear in the near future.
According to Zharov, the vertical video service will be launched in the fall. The specific month is not named, but it is emphasized that this resource is designed for the same audience as TikTok – smartphone users. “In the fall, we are launching a vertical short video platform, because 87% of smartphone owners consume content in a vertical format,” concluded Zharov.
It is noted that Russia intends to create such a service as a response to the same solution from Youtube, called Shorts. Zharov also noted that the Russian service Rutube has recently been actively developing – over the past three months, its audience is more than 20 million people.
