The department stated that these elections are not legitimate.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the “presidential elections” that took place in Belarus 26 January.
This is stated in a message by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It is difficult to call such elections fair, transparent and democratic, in particular, given the political repressions in Belarus, which deprived voters of any alternative choice, and turned the elections themselves into a political show of one person,” the message says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the elections taking place in conditions of complete administrative control and political persecution, the absence of real political competition, oppression of freedom of speech and the absence of media outlets not controlled by the authorities cannot be legitimate.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine fully shares and joins the assessments of the Service of the EU external relations regarding the results of this “action” and expresses its support for those Belarusians who continue to fight for democratic changes in their country, its independence, the preservation of their national dignity and identity,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
The department stated that the Belarusian people deserve a better future than to be hostage to one person for another five years, who not only deprives Belarusians of the prospects for decent development in the family of European nations to which they historically belong, but also creates security threats for neighboring ones. countries and the European region as a whole
“We are convinced that a democratic and sovereign Belarus, in which the people, and not one person, will determine the future, will be a factor in long-term stability in our region, and not an accomplice to Russia's war against Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry added.
Recall that it was previously reported that Lukashenko once again proclaimed himself “president” of Belarus.
In addition, we previously reported that the Central Election Commission of Belarus announced the preliminary results of the “elections” president.
