Apple has slowed down the charging speed of the cheapest new generation smartphone. This is reported by MacRumors with reference to technical support documents.
The journalists found out that the MagSafe wireless standard, released along with the iPhone 12, provides a charging power of 15 watts. However, the peak power for the iPhone 12 mini is 12 watts. Also in the disclosed documents it is said that the smartphone at any time can lower the charging power. This may be due to system load, air temperature, and other factors.
The message specifies that when various Lightning accessories are connected, the power supplied to the smartphone via MagSafe charging is forcibly reduced to 7.5 watts. For example, this happens when you connect your phone to a wireless station while listening to music through wired EarPods. The rest of the devices in the series have no such shortcomings.
In conclusion, the authors drew attention to the method of charging smartphones recommended by Apple experts. They advised plugging the MagSafe accessory into a power outlet first and then attaching it to the iPhone, rather than vice versa. This is due to the fact that the charger needs a few seconds to assess the level of current and voltage in the network.
MagSafe is a new standard for Apple wireless charging, presented at the presentation on October 13 along with the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 12 mini is the most affordable smartphone of the current Apple line, its cost in Russia starts at 70 thousand rubles.
