A new high-speed train “Sapsan” was delivered to the seaport of St. Petersburg on August 13
He will start the route next year.
According to the press service of Russian Railways, the new generation “Sapsan” this year will undergo a series of tests after additional equipment and final adjustment.
“The Sapsan arrived in St. Petersburg. It would seem, what's the news, since it sometimes does it 15 times a day? the first of 13 high-speed trains of the new batch “, – noted in the Russian Railways.
In 2019, Russian Railways and Siemens signed a contract for the supply of 13 new Sapsans worth 1.1 billion euros. All of them will go online in 2022-2023.
At the end of 2019, high-speed trains carried almost 5.7 million passengers, which is 4% more than in the previous year. In the spring of 2020, all rail links were drastically cut. When restrictions eased, passenger traffic began to recover quickly.
In the next 2-3 years, Russian Railways plans to increase the number of Sapsans traveling between St. Petersburg and Moscow by more than 1.5 times. If the growth of passenger traffic continues, then the question will arise of what to do with the Moskovsky railway station. The first sections of the High-Speed Line (HSM) are planned to be commissioned by 2024. New “Sapsans” will be launched on the unfinished high-speed railroad. More details – in the material “DP”.
