The construction of the first Ukrainian corvette “Ivan Mazepa” is being completed in Turkey. It should be commissioned this year. The vessel will be able to protect a water area and fight against surface ships.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmitry Pletenchuk, told “Public” about this.
“This is a combat unit that can perform various tasks – protecting a water area, coastal waters, fighting against surface ships, reconnaissance, and providing air defense cover. It was somewhat modernized during the construction itself – taking into account today's realities and the combat experience that we already have. Therefore, some design changes were made to this corvette,” said Dmitry Pletenchuk.
He also added that the crew is already undergoing training, but this process is very lengthy.
Recall that the Turkish Foreign Ministry is proposing to create a “peace platform” to end the war in Ukraine.
