The first supercharger in Hawaii is being built on Larry Ellison's island

The small island of Lanai will have a Tesla fast charging station, while the city of Honolulu will still have to do without.

Oracle founder Larry Ellison sits on the board of directors of Tesla and has now apparently achieved that the first supercharger is built in Hawaii on a small island that he owns 98 percent. As reported by Electrek, around 3,100 people live on Lanai Island. The 364 square kilometer island (slightly smaller than Vienna) is known as the Pineapple Island due to earlier plantations.

Model X shuttles

Today its residents live mainly from tourism, for example in Larry Ellison's Four Seasons Resort. Tesla Model X Shuttles use this to pick up guests from the island's airport. A fast charging station will be available in the future for precisely these vehicles. It will be built in Lanai City, the largest town on the island.

Need in Honolulu

According to Electrek, it is unlikely that there will be other Supercharger users in addition to the hotel shuttles. The income level on the island is too low. In any case, there would be more customer interest in other parts of the Hawaiian archipelago. On the island of Oahu with the capital Honolulu, for example, Tesla owners currently only have the choice between low-power wall boxes or fast charging stations with Chademo plugs, which Tesla can only use with an adapter.
