The first racket of the world Ashley Barty decided to miss the US Open due to fear of coronavirus. It is reported by the Herald Sun.
The Australian athlete noted that the decision not to compete in the US Open was difficult for her, but due to the spread of COVID-19, the risks remain very high. The tennis player added that she could not expose herself and her team to such danger.
Barty said she is looking forward to the next US Open. The Australian said that she will decide to participate in Roland Garros and other tournaments of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) in the near future.
The US Open 2020 will be held from August 31 to September 13 in New York. Roland Garros, due to take place in Paris, is scheduled for September 21 – October 11. The WTA tournaments, suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, are due to resume in early August.
