The Boeing E-8C Joint STARS aircraft of the US Air Force (Air Force) first appeared in the skies over Ukraine. His flight was recorded by the Flightradar service, the Hunter's Notes Telegram channel reports.
The plane took off from Ramstein Air Base and flew over Ukraine on Monday, December 27. According to the channel, before that Boeing E-8C Joint STARS operated only in the Black Sea.
The aircraft is called the “flying headquarters” because of its versatility. It was created on the basis of the Boeing 707-300 passenger airliner and is intended both for tracking and categorizing military targets within a radius of 200 kilometers, and for command and control.
In September, during the Zapad-2021 joint exercises between Russia and Belarus, the Boeing E-8C Joint STARS was spotted near the Russian borders. Together with him, the RQ-4 Global Hawk and Boeing P-8A Poseidon from the US Air Force, the Beech RC-12X Guardrail from the US Army Air Force, and the Gulfstream IV from the Swedish Air Force observed the maneuvers.
