In the city of Drongen in Belgium, the world's first environmentally friendly cemetery appeared. It has a capacity of 600 seats. Only biodegradable coffins will be used for burial.
Headstones and paths have been replaced with wooden benches and signposts. To honor the memory of the deceased, you can hang a personalized birdhouse on one of the nearby cherry trees.
It is also impossible to buy a place in the cemetery – it can be rented for 25 years – this is how much time, according to the creators of the project, will be required for the complete decomposition of the body.
Archaeologists have discovered a Bronze Age mound on the territory of the cemetery, around it there are wooden pillars and a dug moat – there you can bury urns with ashes.
