MTS operator has launched the first pilot 5G network in Moscow and Russia for its subscribers. This is reported by TASS with reference to the materials of the company.

The first 5th generation user network operates at 4.9 GHz. The network coverage operates in 14 popular locations in the capital. According to a representative of the operator, MTS subscribers who have devices compatible with 5G will be able to connect to unlimited Internet. The operator promises data transfer speeds of up to 1.5 gigabits per second with minimal delays.

The pilot network of the fifth generation is available in the area of Nikolsky Passage, Vetoshny Lane, Lubyanskaya Square, Nikolskaya Street, Taras Shevchenko Embankment, Kutuzovsky Prospekt and other popular locations. The number of 5G zones and coverage will expand over time.

“Users of 5G-compatible smartphones, whom we will invite to participate in the mass pilot, getting to numerous locations on the streets of the capital, will have the opportunity to experience all the advantages of the new standard when downloading heavy content, watching and broadcasting in UHD quality, using AR / VR- services and cloud games, or simply by distributing high-speed Wi-Fi “, – said the President of MTS Alexey Kornya.

Company representatives noticed that independent connection to pilot zones is not yet available for a wide range of MTS subscribers. However, in the future, subscribers will receive SMS with an offer to connect to the network through the activation of the “Access to 5G” option.

The Mobile TeleSystems company (MTS brand) was the first in Russia to receive a license to create a 5G network at the end of July. The document allows the deployment of communications infrastructure in almost all regions of Russia – 83 out of 85 constituent entities.
