Head of the Department of Financial Markets, PRUE G.V. Plekhanov Konstantin Ordov predicted the fate of cryptocurrencies in 2022. According to him, big changes are expected – bitcoin will lose its position, a full-fledged digital yuan will appear, whose pilot testing projects are successful, RIA Novosti reports.
The financier also noted that in the coming year, the Central Bank of Russia plans to switch to testing the digital ruble. He called it an economically promising project.
The emergence of African cryptocurrencies, despite the claims of their creation, is unlikely, added Ordov, since they must be backed by a developed economic and legal system.
“If we are talking about the competition of national digital currencies with more and more popular cryptocurrencies, then so far only measures of prohibition and restrictions create advantages for state currencies, but this cannot go on forever,” the expert emphasized.
Ordov predicted that Ethereum will take the lead in replacing Bitcoin if the Proof of Stake protocol, which does not depend on the power of the equipment, proves to be successful. Thus, there will be no need for a large amount of energy to protect the blockchain, and its performance will exceed all known payment systems.
Earlier, the head of the hedge fund Teza Technologies, Mikhail Malyshev, predicted that Bitcoin would reach a ceiling in value within three to six years. The maximum price can be about 500 thousand dollars, while the cryptocurrency will gradually begin to lose its dominant position in the market. According to him, the share of bitcoin will be one-tenth of the market in 5-7 years, but such processes are not linear, so the point will be reached much earlier.
