The passenger-and-freight ferry “Pavel Leonov” successfully passed sea trials in Lake Ladoga and returned to the shipyard. The ferry built in St. Petersburg will provide year-round transport links between Sakhalin Island and the Kuril Islands.

According to the press service of the Nevsky shipbuilding and shiprepairing plant, during the events, the technical characteristics of the vessel, the operation of systems and equipment were checked.

They clarified that 56 specialists took part in the tests, including the commissioning team of the plant, representatives of the customer and specialists from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

“The ferry test program has been fully completed. Now an audit has begun on the ship, after which it will be handed over to the customer. In the near future, the ferry will go to the port of registry” Korsakov, “the company said.

“Pavel Leonov” is the second vessel of the PV22 project, built at the Nevsky Shipyard. Ferries are designed to carry up to 146 passengers, as well as to transport goods, including refrigerated and dangerous goods, transportation of 24 containers and 6 cars.

With the launch of PV22 vessels, the turnover of passengers and cargo on the Kuril line will triple. The construction of ships is carried out by order of Sakhalinleasingflot JSC within the framework of the program “Social and Economic Development of the Kuril Islands for 2016 – 2025”.

“Nevsky Shipbuilding and Shiprepairing Plant” is a part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). In 2020, its revenue grew by 14.7% to 4.7 billion (compared to 2019), net profit – by 100%, which allowed the shipyard to get out of a loss of 565.5 million rubles received a year earlier.
