Access to the Internet in educational institutions of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation will create a unified educational network and enable teachers to remotely improve their qualifications. This was reported by TASS on Wednesday by the press service of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation.

“[Internet connection] will allow to gather Arctic educational institutions into a single educational network, will enable all schools to make broader use of online education opportunities, and teachers to remotely improve their qualifications,” the press service of the senator from the Republic of Komi, a member of the Federation Council committee, quotes. on federal structure, regional politics, local self-government and Northern affairs Elena Shumilova.

She noted that more and more settlements in the Arctic are gaining access to the Internet. So, according to her, recently a stable Internet connection became available in the Taimyr village of Nosok, where about 2 thousand people live. The senator added that it is also necessary to provide for the possibility of limiting the access of young people, including representatives of the indigenous minorities of the North, to inappropriate content on the Internet.

A similar opinion on the need to limit negative content on the Internet was expressed by Irina Samsonova, Doctor of Economics, Chief Researcher at the Yakutia Academy of Sciences. In addition, she added that at the moment the state is systematically combating digital inequality, and it is necessary to think about the problems that “young tundra and taiga people, unprepared for the flow of modern information,” may face.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev reported that three radar satellites for monitoring the ice situation in the Arctic, one for meteorological monitoring, as well as four spacecraft to provide users in the Arctic zone with the Internet will appear before 2025.
