Arseny Shcheltsin, general director of ANO Digital Platforms, in an interview with the Prime agency, gave the Russians information that scammers can find out by their phone number.
According to him, the phone number gives scammers more personal information than it might seem. So, they can find out the name and passport data, and already from them find out whether a person owns real estate or cars, therefore, assess the level of well-being of a potential victim.
“Threats are constantly growing due to the increase in the number of agents involved in data processing, data processing technologies and the geometric growth in the complexity of monitoring data security,” the expert warned.
At the same time, most of the databases with personal information are in the public domain and often end up in the hands of scammers. An electronic passport or two-factor authorization to important services will help to completely protect against this, Shcheltsin explained.
Earlier, Alexei Sizov, head of the anti-fraud department of Jet Infosystems, said that telephone scammers have studied well how banks work and how their employees talk to customers. According to him, there are more and more cases when fraudsters call and ask only about the cards of which banks the consumer has. The expert explained that such a call may be a preliminary collection of information for a systematic targeted attack.
