The expert told what is the reason for the increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Russia
The increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the Russian Federation is associated with a change in the dominant strain of coronavirus. This was stated by the deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gorelov.
He explained that this situation is observed not only in our country, but also in other countries. According to him, each time a change in the genovariants of the coronavirus is usually accompanied by an increase in the incidence.
“Right now we are going through this stage,” he said in an interview with TASS.
The epidemiologist believes that after reaching the maximum values, the incidence rate will remain high for another month and a half. This is called the “stabilization phase”. Only after that will the number of cases of infection begin to decrease.
“How confidently we will move towards this depends on our commitment to the observance of sanitary rules and vaccination,” Gorelov emphasized.
Earlier, the World Health Organization reported that the Russian Federation came in fourth place in the number of cases of infection with the new virus. They also said that the world is on the verge of the third wave of the new coronavirus pandemic, and recommended that countries vaccinate at least 10% of the population against coronavirus infection by autumn.
